About Us

ESA was established in 2022 with a clear purpose, to elevate and maintain competency standards within safety support services for the entertainment industry. Firstly, by recognising professional competencies within the industry, and endorsing industry specific safety professionals who meet the standard. Secondly by providing a pathway for new candidates to gain recognition in the industry by providing a comprehensive training for safety professionals wishing to specialise in film, television, theatre, and live events. All of which will be in alignment with the established best safe work practices in Australia and abroad.

With the backing of prominent entities such as screen producers, screen and entertainment bodies, insurance companies, and unions, ESA is the benchmark for industry-recognised training and qualification for all safety professionals in the Australian screen and live entertainment sector. Our commitment to excellence and collaboration will position us as a trusted resource within the industry, promoting the well-being of all professionals in our industry.

Dear Entertainment Industry Enthusiasts,

Welcome to the Entertainment Safety Alliance (ESA), where our collective journey ensures safety remains at the heart of our dynamic world.

In 1982, a tragedy during the filming of “Midnight Spares” reshaped our industry’s safety landscape. The loss highlighted the need for comprehensive safety beyond stunts, leading to the introduction of safety officers, mainly stunt professionals, to safeguard every set. As our industry expanded, so did the risks, prompting stringent regulations and a focus on investing in skilled safety personnel. Today, safety is a multidisciplinary science governed by laws, emphasizing the vital role of experience in every corner of our diverse work environments.

Enter ESA—a symbol of competence in a self-regulated safety landscape. We aim to distinguish seasoned professionals from those lacking necessary training, fostering professional growth and ensuring legal obligations are met. ESA serves as a knowledge hub, offering advice, clarification, and industry training. Let’s elevate safety standards, protect our colleagues, and propel the entertainment industry into a new era of professionalism.

Safe regards,
